Corporate records, 1898-1947 (bulk 1917-1933).

Minutes (1900-1942), numerous and sundry financial records, annual reports to the I.C.C. (1902-1941), land contracts, outgoing letters (1917-1933), subject files (1898-1933) and reports (1917-1933), all documenting a NP subsidiary operating a railway line in northern Minnesota. The Letters Sent series (265 vol.) contains outgoing letters of William Gemmell, general manager and president of the M&I, dealing with all aspects of the railroad's operations. Both of the Subject Files series (bulk 1917-1933) contain correspondence and related materials dealing with all aspects of the M&I's operations. Records before 5 February 1917 were lost when a fire destroyed the railway's general offices in Brainerd, Minn. There are a few items, however, that were duplicated from other extant records, which date back to 1898.
